Ryan Tannehill's wife Lauren Ufer The most intriguing player on the 2012 NFL Draft Board is without question Ryan Tannehill. Projections range from him being a late first round pick, to some as insane as calling him the #3 overall. For a young kid with an up and down college career, it must be a scary and exciting prospect, with very little certainty in the next few days and weeks. Lucky for Tannehill, he's got one constant at home who will help keep things sane for him.  Lauren Ufer blew up the internet for a few minutes on Thanksgiving night when ESPN introduced her to the world. During a 27-25 loss to Texas, the ESPN broadcast showed Ufer in the crowd, while also putting up a name underneath so everyone could go searching for more pictures. Ufer and Tannehill were engaged in May of 2011 after meeting in 2009.  Washington Nationals Will Call Up Prospect Bryce Harper from Triple-

Ladies and gentlemen, Bryce Harper will be coming to a major league stadium near you very soon.
The Washington Nationals decided during spring training to have their top prospect start the season with Triple-A Syracuse, but circumstances have changed. They need Harper now, and Mark Zuckerman of CSNWashington.com has reported that they're going to call him up:




It's a bittersweet move, to be sure, as the Nats can't be happy to see Zimmerman going back on the disabled list. He's spent a little bit too much time on the DL in recent seasons.
But never mind that. This news is all about Harper, the 19-year-old phenom who is far and away the best power-hitting prospect in the minor leagues. Baseball fans have been looking forward to his major league debut ever since Sports Illustrated profiled him in 2009, and they're about to get their wish.
Harper's first professional season in 2011 went pretty well. He hit .318 with 14 homers in 72 games with Single-A Hagerstown, with 19 stolen bases to boot. He cooled off in 37 games with Double-A Harrisburg, but he still managed to hit three home runs and steal seven bases.
Harper got off to a slow start with Triple-A Syracuse this season, but he's rebounded nicely in recent games. His average is up to .250, and he hit his first Triple-A home run on Sunday.
Of course, we're not talking about just any home run hitter. The SI article in 2009 told tales of a 570-foot home run that came off Harper's bat. He's not going to be able to hit one that far with a wood bat, but Harper most definitely has light-tower power.
According to Adam Kilgore of The Washington Post, Harper will make his debut on Saturday at Dodger Stadium against Matt Kemp and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Expect tickets for that game to start going quickly.

Born October 16th, 1992 (1992!!) Bryce Harper is a 17 year old left-handed hitting catcher currently playing for Southern Nevada Community College.  He is also the most-hyped baseball prospect of my lifetime.
His throws clock 96mph on the the radar gun and he has off the charts power - a solid 80 on the 20-80 scouting scale.  It is said that he is more advanced than Ken Griffey Jr and Alex Rodriguez were at the same age.
In Harper’s second year of highschool he put together a line of  .626/.723/1.339. In 115 at-bats he slugged 22 doubles, nine triples and 14 home runs.  Of those 14 HRs, 8 of them came in his last seven games.  He drove in 55 while scoring 76 times. His BB:K ratio was an impressive 39:5. That’s right, 5 strikeouts in 115 AB.  He also finished the season - including playoffs – on a 23 game hitting streak. He stole 36 bases in 39 attempts.  Not only that but he is so fast the he scored 6 times on wild pitches – from second base. He was the first-ever sophomore to win Baseball America’s High School Player of the Year award
Pretty impressive, no? Harper also hit a towering blast that was measured at 570 feet.  On paper he is quite the stud but those numbers are to be taken with a grain of salt.  The level of competition is not that high and he was facing sloppy 74-80mph fastballs.  His high school league was also an aluminum bat league.
This past summer Harper stepped it up by playing for six weeks with USA Baseball’s 18-and-under team.  Bryce helped the American U-18 win a gold medal by hitting .294/.375/.588 with 2 home runs and 4 doubles in 34 at-bats. He also led the team with two stolen bases in as many attempts
Despite those eye-popping statistics, Bryce Harper didn’t gain real notoriety until he participated in the International Power Showcase at Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay in 2008.  It was at this showcase that Harper hit the longest homerun ever recorded at the Trop, measuring 502 feet.  In fact, it would have travelled even further had it not smashed into the back wall of the dome.
Both Bryce and his parents knew that his development would plateau if he continued to face the low-level competition that his high school league had to offer.  At the age of 16 Bryce obtained his G.E.D.  and enrolled in South Nevada Community College – bypassing his final 2 years of highschool.  Coincidentally, this also made him eligible for the 2010 MLB draft.  As a result he became the consensus #1 pick of the 2010 draft.
However, Harper being selected #1 overall is far from a lock.  In his first weekend playing for the South Nevada Coyotes he went 3 for 15 and had some difficulty adjusting to the use of a wood bat.  He is represented by Scott Boras, an immediate red flag in regards to his signability.  Harper is also futher away from contributing at the major league level than many other highly-touted collegiate pitchers.

Optical Illusions

A blivet 

A blivet, also known as a poiuyt, is an undecipherable figure, an optical illusion and an impossible object. It appears to have three cylindrical prongs at one end which then mysteriously transform into two rectangular prongs at the other end.

The Café Wall Illusion

The café wall illusion is an optical illusion, first described by Doctor Richard Gregory. He observed this curious effect in the tiles of the wall of a café at the bottom of St Michael’s Hill, Bristol. This optical illusion makes the parallel straight horizontal lines appear to be bent. To construct the illusion, alternating light and dark “bricks” are laid in staggered rows. It is essential for the illusion that each “brick” is surrounded by a layer of “mortar” (the grey in the image). This should ideally be of a color in between the dark and light color of the “bricks”.

The Hermann Grid Illusion

The Hermann grid illusion is an optical illusion reported by Ludimar Hermann in 1870 while, incidentally, reading John Tyndall’s Sound. The illusion is characterised by “ghostlike” grey blobs perceived at the intersections of a white (or light-colored) grid on a black background. The grey blobs disappear when looking directly at an intersection.

 The Hering Illusion

The Hering illusion is an optical illusion discovered by the German physiologist Ewald Hering in 1861. The two vertical lines are both straight, but they look as if they were bowed outwards. The distortion is produced by the lined pattern on the background, that simulates a perspective design, and creates a false impression of depth.

Impossible Cube Illusion

The impossible cube or irrational cube is an impossible object that draws upon the ambiguity present in a Necker cube illustration. An impossible cube is usually rendered as a Necker cube in which the edges are apparently solid beams. This apparent solidity gives the impossible cube greater visual ambiguity than the Necker cube, which is less likely to be perceived as an impossible object. The illusion plays on the human eye’s interpretation of two-dimensional pictures as three-dimensional objects.

Jastrow Illusion

The Jastrow illusion is an optical illusion discovered by the American psychologist Joseph Jastrow in 1889. In this illustration, the two figures are identical, although the lower one appears to be larger.

 Up down Stairs Illusion

This is a simple, enjoyable optical illusion. Just stare at the picture for awhile, and at first you’ll think that the stairs go up. A fairly simple illusion. But as your eyes look around the picture, and especially if they glance to the left corner, it helps your brain think of the stairs in a different way.
They start to flip perspective and it looks like you’re looking UP at the stairs instead. Then your brain will flip it back. It appears to be impossible to imagine the stairs going both ways at the same time. The picture doesn’t flip the picture, it’s how your brain interprets it.

This red spiral appears to move

This is a great demonstration of illusory movement. It seems the bigger the image and the bigger the screen, the more it appears to work. It also helps if you try to count the objects inside this moving red spiral. As your eyes move around, you'll see the red "dots" flicker.

Start with the outer circle and just move your eyes around as if you are counting the dots. Then try to freeze your eyes and as you don't move them, see if the rest of the image is moving. As with all of our moving pictures, you may want to print them out to prove that they're really not moving, it just looks like they are! Personally, I think it looks like a school of fish, all moving together in quick waves with the ocean. 

Zöllner Illusion

In this figure the black lines seem to be unparallel, but in reality they are parallel. The shorter lines are on an angle to the longer lines. This angle helps to create the impression that one end of the longer lines is nearer to us than the other end. This is very similar to the way the Wundt illusion appears. It may be that the Zöllner illusion is caused by this impression of depth.

Orbison Illusion

The Orbison illusion is an optical illusion that was first described by the psychologist William Orbison in 1939. The bounding rectangle and inner square both appear distorted in the presence of the radiating lines. The background gives us the impression there is some sort of perspective. As a result, our brain sees the shape distorted. This is a variant of the Hering and Wundt illusions.
